Unveiling the impact of climate change on underutilized fruit crops: A review

Author(s): Ratna Khundrakpam and Amit Kotiyal
Abstract: Climate change profoundly impacts underutilized fruit crops, altering critical phenological stages (flowering, fruiting, ripening) and affecting yield, quality, and nutrition. Extreme weather events exacerbate risks (water stress, pests, diseases). Despite challenges, these crops exhibit genetic diversity and resilience. Innovative breeding (marker-assisted selection, genomic editing) can develop climate-resilient varieties. Sustainable practices (agroforestry, conservation tillage, integrated pest management) enhance resilience. Empowering local communities and conserving genetic resources unlock opportunities for nutritional security and livelihood enhancement.
